Inclusion Chilliwack Society is looking for community members who share our vision, and are interested in becoming contracted caregivers to provide either part time respite or full time shared living supports in Chilliwack and surrounding communities.
ICS believes adults, children and youth with developmental disabilities have a right to live full lives in our community. Our services provide opportunities for individuals to grow, make friends, participate in community, learn, have fun and make choices for themselves.

What do Contracted Caregivers do?
There are two ways that contracted caregivers with ICS make a difference in our community:
Community Respite looks like…
Inclusion Chilliwack Society contracts mature individuals, couples or families to provide respite care within their own home for individual children and adults with developmental disabilities.
The contracted caregivers will be expected to provide a high quality of care and support in such areas as personal hygiene, appearance, health care, nutrition, social and recreational activities.
Hours are flexible, dependent on the needs of the individual and their family. They may include individual hours, overnight stays, or periods of up to a maximum of three weeks at a time.
HomeShare looks like…
Inclusion Chilliwack Society contracts mature individuals, couples or families to provide safe, nurturing, community based, shared living arrangements for adults with developmental disabilities.
The contracted caregivers will be expected to provide a high quality of care and support in such areas as personal hygiene, appearance, health care, nutrition, and, ideally, integrate the individuals into their own social and recreational activities.

The caregiver's role
- Mentorship
- Provide a high standard of Quality of Life

- Effectively communicate both verbally and written
- Maintain records of individual’s care plan
How caregivers are matched with individuals
Inclusion Chilliwack Society’s goal is to obtain longevity in a HomeShare and Respite placements, establishing long last relationships between the individual and caregiver. Preferences of both the caregiver and individual are considered when options are being reviewed:
- Family Dynamics
- Pets in the home
- Location/Area of Chilliwack
- Shared interests
- Shared space or suite
- Religious backgrounds
- Caregiver Experience and skill set
Screening and general requirements
Screening caregiver applicants involves: 1) Application, 2) Written Interview, and 3) SAFE HomeStudy. Additionally, ICS requires the following of applicants:
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Can be single, couples, couples with children, or retired
- References
- Class 5 driver’s license
- First Aid certification
- Medical clearance (clarification?)
- Clear criminal record check (for all members of the household 18 years and older)
- 3rd party liability insurance
- Ability to provide a safe and nurturing community based home
- Willingness to open and share your home
- Some knowledge of the Community Living Philosophy of Support
- Willingness to learn with an open mind
- Be flexible and supportive
Training and support provided to caregivers
ICS will have your back! We have tools and resources available to help caregivers succeed. Training in the folowing will be provided:
- CLBC or MCFD privacy training
- CLBC HomeShare Standards
- First Aid Training
- CPI/NVCI or Mandt
- Planning/Goals
- ShareVision system
